MLM: Learning Multi-task Loco-Manipulation Whole-Body Control for Quadruped Robot with Arm

Whole-body loco-manipulation for quadruped robots with arms remains a challenging problem, particularly in achieving multi-task control. To address this, we propose MLM, a reinforcement learning framework driven by both real-world and simulation data. It enables a six-DoF robotic arm-equipped quadruped robot to perform whole-body loco-manipulation for multiple tasks autonomously or under human teleoperation. To address the problem of balancing multiple tasks during the learning of loco-manipulation, we introduce a trajectory library with an adaptive, curriculum-based sampling mechanism. This approach allows the policy to efficiently leverage real-world collected trajectories for learning multi-task loco-manipulation. To address deployment scenarios with only historical observations and to enhance the performance of policy execution across tasks with different spatial ranges, we propose a Trajectory-Velocity Prediction policy network. It predicts unobservable future trajectories and velocities. By leveraging extensive simulation data and curriculum-based rewards, our controller achieves whole-body behaviors in simulation and zero-shot transfer to real-world deployment. Ablation studies in simulation verify the necessity and effectiveness of our approach, while real-world experiments on a Go2 robot with an Airbot robotic arm demonstrate the policy's good performance in multi-task execution.

MV-MLM: Bridging Multi-View Mammography and Language for Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Risk Prediction

Large annotated datasets are essential for training robust Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) models for breast cancer detection or risk prediction. However, acquiring such datasets with fine-detailed annotation is both costly and time-consuming. Vision-Language Models (VLMs), such as CLIP, which are pre-trained on large image-text pairs, offer a promising solution by enhancing robustness and data efficiency in medical imaging tasks. This paper introduces a novel Multi-View Mammography and Language Model for breast cancer classification and risk prediction, trained on a dataset of paired mammogram images and synthetic radiology reports. Our MV-MLM leverages multi-view supervision to learn rich representations from extensive radiology data by employing cross-modal self-supervision across image-text pairs. This includes multiple views and the corresponding pseudo-radiology reports. We propose a novel joint visual-textual learning strategy to enhance generalization and accuracy performance over different data types and tasks to distinguish breast tissues or cancer characteristics(calcification, mass) and utilize these patterns to understand mammography images and predict cancer risk. We evaluated our method on both private and publicly available datasets, demonstrating that the proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance in three classification tasks: (1) malignancy classification, (2) subtype classification, and (3) image-based cancer risk prediction. Furthermore, the model exhibits strong data efficiency, outperforming existing fully supervised or VLM baselines while trained on synthetic text reports and without the need for actual radiology reports.

Rescaling MLM-Head for Neural Sparse Retrieval

Learned sparse retrieval (LSR) models such as SPLADE have traditionally used BERT-style masked language models as backbone encoders. A natural expectation is that replacing BERT with stronger pretrained encoders should improve retrieval effectiveness. However, we find that under standard SPLADE training recipes, backbones with large MLM-head L2 norms can suffer performance degradation and even training collapse under standard SPLADE training recipes. We identify this failure as a scale mismatch in the MLM head: SPLADE directly uses MLM-head outputs to construct sparse lexical representations, and query-document relevance is computed by an unnormalized dot product over these representations. As a result, an inflated MLM-head scale can amplify sparse activations, distort matching scores, and destabilize contrastive training under common training settings. To address this issue, we introduce a simple initialization-time correction that rescales the MLM-head projection by a constant factor before SPLADE training. This zero-cost adjustment improves training stability without modifying the model architecture or training objective. Across both in-domain and out-of-domain retrieval benchmarks, this simple correction substantially improves large-norm backbones such as ModernBERT and Ettin, turning unstable training runs into competitive sparse retrievers. In several settings, the corrected models further match or surpass the classic BERT-SPLADE baseline. These findings suggest that the bottleneck in adapting pretrained encoders to LSR is not encoder capacity alone, but the calibration of the MLM-head scale used to construct sparse lexical representations.

MoganBert-TR: A Turkish Encoder Foundation Model Trained from Scratch with a CLM-to-MLM Curriculum

Turkish encoder models have adopted modern architectures while leaving the pretraining objective fixed at masked language modelling. This paper introduces MoganBert-TR, a 149M-parameter Turkish encoder foundation model trained from scratch on a language-specifically filtered corpus, together with an embedding model derived from it (MoganBert-Embed). MoganBert-TR is trained over 237.3B tokens with a two-stage CLM-to-MLM curriculum: causal language modelling first, masked language modelling for the remainder, with the transition made inside the stable phase of a WSD schedule. In a controlled ablation under an equal step budget, this design outperforms pure MLM by 2.7-3.7x on Turkish MS MARCO retrieval; the measured mechanism is embedding geometry, where a single direction absorbs 28.1% of the variance under pure MLM against 11.9% under the curriculum. Long-context extension and learning-rate decay are then split into two branches after a shared prefix: running the final portion of decay at 1024 context improves the TrGLUE average by 0.49 +/- 0.26 points across five paired seeds (p = 0.013) and beats a model-soup alternative by 0.75 points at ~4.3% additional cost. MoganBert-TR attains 78.41 on TrGLUE, the best among the Turkish ModernBERT models compared, and 77.73 on TabiBench, where it leads two of the eight categories with the largest margin on code retrieval (+3.62 points over TabiBERT). MoganBert-Embed, produced through teacher distillation and multi-signal contrastive fine-tuning, ranks first among student models on the MTEB(Turkish) overall average with 68.30 and reaches 99.5% of its 7.57B-parameter teacher's score with a 51x smaller backbone. The accompanying 50,048-token tokenizer outperforms all compared Turkish tokenizers on compression and fertility across two independent test sets.
